Research and Development

HKBU is a research-led liberal arts university. We value the importance of impact, collaboration, interdisciplinarity and innovation. Our groundbreaking research offers solutions to real-world problems that affect our society and beyond. As part of our goal of enhancing research performance, we strive to recruit world-leading scholars, actively cultivate niche research areas and strengthen the research environment. We are also committed to connecting our research with teaching: research keeps teaching alive and teaching gives research a voice and a platform for application. Integrating these two important roles, the University continues to thrive by making contributions to different communities at the local and international levels.

Encompassing HKBU’s research strengths, the University has formed institutional research clusters in three key areas to support interdisciplinary research and theme-based research and promote research excellence and knowledge/technology transfer:

  1. Creative Media/Practice
Film, Graphics, Literary Arts, Music, Visual/Media Arts
  2. Health and Drug Discovery
Chinese Medicine, Chemistry, Microbiology, Ageing, Physical Education
  3. Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence
